We use the chia as a natural thickener and dietary supplement for your plant milks.
We´ve mixed it with oat milk but you can also use it with almond milk, sesame milk…
Mix it with any seed you prefer!
We explain how to do it in this recipe.
Ingredients:
- 1 litre of water
- 50 grams of rolled oats.
- 1 tablespoon of chia
- 1 tablespoon of agave, palm sugar syrup, or honey ( optional)
- 1/8 lemon peel
- A pinch of cinnamon and salt
Preparation
- Put one litre of water in the container with the filtering glass in it. Add a cup of rolled oats and a tablespoon of chia into the filter. Let it stand overnight (for about 8 hours).
- The next morning, add the rest of the ingredients and mix everything for a minute and a half, using the lowest setting of the blender. Chia is a natural thickener so the milk gets thicker because of it.
Water temperature
-
If we use chia, it´s not necessary to use hot water. If we prepare the milk with hot water and chia, it becomes extremely thick and creamy and it´s very difficult to strain the milk from the pulp.
-
When using cold water, the filtering process must be done with patience as the texture of the milk is quite sticky. The most useful trick for a quick filtration is to incline the filtering glass slightly and use the cleanest parts of the mesh. In the traditional oatmilk recipe, which uses warm water, the filtering process takes about 10 seconds however, in this recipe which uses chia, it could take about two minutes. But the result is a spectacular plant milk .
Tips
- If it´s too thick, you can always add more water or use fewer chia.
- Some Chufamix users told us that they use raw oats and they get a similar result.
- If you are not going to drink it immediately, keep in the fridge.
- Of course , you can recycle the pulp .
